Compassion Will Never Be Numbed

Imprints of today's tragedies fade much too quickly,

melting into the background noise of yesterday's news.

Yet⎼ compassion will never be numbed even when hate

and all its unspeakable numbers seem to take center stage,

for it's the golden thread linking hands to meaningful change.

Compassion⎼ it need not be birthed by the same womb to exist,

share the same blood, the same DNA, or live under the same roof.

Compassion desperately needs to take lead and govern our actions.
